About Elsie
Monica Colomby Scholarship Award |
|
Those students that were introduced to BS&T by their parents and teachers have grown to become parents and teachers themselves. Within the educational system, they now face budget slashing and cutbacks that have an especially adverse effect on their music departments.
Local Communities BS&T donates money and when possible, instruments to the local school’s music department in cities where the band performs. The band believes that they should give back to the communities when they are there, in person, so that more attention can be given to the need to support these under-funded music programs.

It’s always the Art’s Many teachers have told us that they have little to no money to buy or repair instruments, or to purchase or upgrade music books. Some schools charge a user fee to join the school band, making it virtually impossible for many students that are financially disadvantaged to discover the joys of learning to play an instrument. The little victories that accompany the acknowledgement of personal gains and improvement go hand in hand with hard work and discipline. Those attributes spill over into all other aspects of their school life. Time to give back BS&T will not stand idly by without an effort to ameliorate this situation. BS&T has created the Elsie Monica Colomby Scholarship Award named after founding member Bobby Colomby’s late mother, who’s deep appreciation for art and music was absorbed by her sons.? In 2009, BS&T donated the funds for reconstructive surgery for five children in Africa by Operation Hope.
